Meet The Q Magnetics Team
We are NMR enthusiasts with over 40 years of combined experience in the design, development, and application of benchtop NMR.

PRESIDENT & CHIEF SCIENTIST
John Price, PhD
Since his undergraduate days as a physics major at Yale and his time as a Ph.D. student, John has been excited by scientific instruments of all kinds. His past projects include an electrometer able to detect a single electron, a SQUID susceptometer, a microwave bridge for mesoscopic electronics, a detector of gravity at sub-millimeter scales, a cryogenic dielectric spectrometer, and an acoustic waveguide reflectometer. While still on the faculty at the University of Colorado, his interests turned to permanent-magnet NMR, and he led the team that developed the picoSpin-45 and picoSpin-80 spectrometers, introduced in 2010 and 2013. He retired from academia in 2020, and now works full-time on NMR technology. John's profile on Google Scholar.

DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
John Frost, PhD
John entered the field of benchtop NMR in 2010 when he built a 19 MHz CW-NMR as a side project while completing his doctorate in analytical and physical chemistry at the University of Wisconsin. During the next decade, he advanced academic, industrial, and government NMR customers' work through distributors and direct sales teams across the globe. As the Director of Business Development, John is excited to bring Q Magnetics' innovative NMR technology to our customers and market partners.

DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS
Liz Marr, MS, RD, FAND
Having owned two successful food and beverage consulting businesses, Liz has worked with companies ranging from Boulder-based natural products start-ups to global Fortune 500 corporations. As director of business operations at Q Magnetics, Liz applies her extensive small business management experience. An expert in nutrition, food science, food safety, and functional ingredients, she also brings knowledge of an important application area for Q Magnetics’ spectrometer products. Liz is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in food science and human nutrition from Colorado State University. She is a past chair of the Food and Culinary Professional Dietetic Practice Group and a past president of the Colorado Dietetic Association.

SENIOR APPLICATIONS CHEMIST
Tyler Ozvat, PhD
Tyler is passionate about applying NMR to all aspects of chemistry. His interests in NMR began in small-molecule synthesis and spectroscopy as an undergraduate at Fort Lewis College. During his Ph.D. studies at Colorado State University, he worked in the Zadrozny Lab where synthesized metal-ligand complexes in order to study transition-metal variable-temperature NMR properties for the design of nuclear-spin-based thermometers. As a senior applications chemist, Tyler handles technical sales and delivers the applications of our benchtop NMR spectrometers tailored to our customers' needs.

MANUFACTURING MANAGER
Prabhath Wasalthilake, BSc
Prabhath has extensive experience in medical device manufacturing and water project industries with technical and management skills. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Advanced Manufacturing Sciences from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. With a strong understanding of technical specifications and quality standards, he oversees our NMR manufacturing operations by developing and implementing manufacturing processes, maintaining high levels of quality control, and continuous product development.

APPLICATIONS CHEMIST
Caitlin Welch, BSc
Caitlin’s interest in NMR began during her undergraduate studies in biochemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she conducted research in the Sammakia Lab focused on the organic synthesis of sugar nucleotides. There, she gained hands-on experience with NMR as a tool for characterizing complex molecules, sparking a deeper curiosity about the technology itself. Now as an applications chemist at Q Magnetics, Caitlin oversees sample preparation and loading, and is responsible for analyzing NMR spectra. Her long-term goals remain rooted in chemistry, with a focus on deepening her expertise in analytical methods and molecular structure evaluations.

ENGINEERING
Hilton Chan, PhD
Hilton sees Q Magnetics a perfect opportunity for a new direction and an adventure. After completing his physics Ph.D. at Stanford, he spent 13 years in the aerospace industry designing and building satellites for NASA and the US government. His satellite projects included advancements in lidar, spectrometers, and optical design and analysis. Before that, he was a physics and math major at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
